Two Pitt County residents died in a head-on collision on Highway I-587 late Wednesday night.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed the crash occurred at the 30.5-mile marker at approximately 11 p.m. on September 10.
According to authorities, 78-year-old Mack Worley of Ayden was traveling west in the eastbound lanes when his vehicle collided with a car driven by 39-year-old Ismael Resendiz-Cabrera of Greenville.
Emergency responders pronounced both drivers dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
No lane closures or additional injuries were reported.
