Two Killed in Sunday Crash Near Corsica, Including One Mitchell Resident

CORSICA, S.D. – Two individuals were killed in a crash on Sunday evening, approximately six miles southwest of Corsica.

The incident occurred around 5:57 p.m. on S.D. Highway 44 near mile marker 325, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. A 2016 Fusion, traveling eastbound, veered from the roadway, entered the south ditch, struck a field approach, vaulted over a fence, and rolled in a field.

The driver, a 52-year-old male from Mitchell, and a passenger, a 72-year-old female from Sioux Falls, were at the scene. The driver was wearing a seat belt; however, the seat belt use of the 72-year-old female is under investigation.

Two additional passengers, a 37-year-old female and a 36-year-old male, both from Sioux Falls, were life-flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident. All details provided are preliminary and subject to change.
