JACKSON − Two individuals died after their SUV crashed into a tree on Hyson Road near Jackson Mills early Sunday, police confirmed.
Emergency services received a call at 12:08 a.m. regarding a downed transformer, later reporting a vehicle collision.
Upon arrival, officers found a 2023 Toyota Highlander fully engulfed in flames, according to Jackson Police Lt. Edward Travisano.
Rescue efforts were initiated, but officials reported they could not reach the occupants inside the vehicle.
After extinguishing the fire, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their identities remain undisclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The Jackson Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the incident. Travisano urged witnesses to contact Officer Matthew Kalbach at 732-928-1111.
