MECHANICSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — Two people from Frankfort died and three others were injured in a crash involving an SUV, a concrete truck, and a van on State Road 39 on Friday morning.
The crash occurred around 10:25 a.m. in the 8500 block of North State Road 39, just north of Sugar Creek and the community of Mechanicsburg, approximately 45 minutes northwest of downtown Indianapolis.
Involved in the incident were a 2012 tan GMC Terrain SUV, a concrete truck, and a 2021 RAM passenger van, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office. The SUV's driver, Jose Chavez, 64, and passenger, Norma Perez, 59, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Yaraliz Mercado, 25, a rear passenger in the SUV, and Brice Stingley, 62, the van driver, were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the concrete truck, Russel Hampton, 62, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with assistance from the Boone County Sheriff's Office Fatal Alcohol Crash Team. Authorities did not disclose whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
No arrests have been reported as of the latest update.
