A second person has died following a single-vehicle accident in Gasconade County, with the driver facing charges.
The crash occurred at 9:15 p.m. on South Fourth Street in Owensville. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Jeep veered off the road, colliding with three mailboxes, a utility pole, and an embankment before going airborne and flipping over, ejecting all four occupants.
Initial reports indicated that a 17-year-old boy died at the scene. Later, it was confirmed that a 22-year-old man from Belle, MO, succumbed to his injuries on Monday at 1 p.m. The other injured passengers were a 37-year-old and a 26-year-old, both from Bland, MO.
Gasconade County prosecutors have since charged Tyler C. Schmidt, the driver, with DWI – Death of 2 or More and DWI – Serious Physical Injury. Schmidt sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Washington, MO. He will be held without bond once discharged.
