A collision involving a vehicle and multiple bicycles resulted in two fatalities and several injuries on Wednesday morning.

According to the Carter County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred on US Highway 19E at Simerly Creek. Emergency responders reported that two individuals died at the scene, while others sustained serious injuries.

Health officials confirmed that multiple victims are receiving treatment at Johnson City Medical Center, with at least one person being transported by air. Four students are in critical condition.

Carter County 911 advises drivers to avoid the area as emergency crews manage the scene. An investigation is underway, and lane closures are anticipated.

Milligan University identified the two deceased as sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rodgers. The university community has been asked to keep the victims in their thoughts and prayers.

Ballad Health CEO Alan Levine expressed deep sorrow regarding the incident, confirming that members of the Milligan Cycling Team were involved. Trauma surgeons are on standby at the medical center for potential additional patients.
