UPDATE – The highway has reopened to traffic following a fatal crash.
ORIGINAL – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Highway 54, south of Jefferson City, that occurred on Wednesday.
According to authorities, one person died in a two-vehicle collision, which blocked westbound Highway 54 at the south junction of Monticello Road.
Emergency responders, including a medical helicopter, transported an injured individual to the hospital.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area or use caution while driving through the scene.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
