ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — A crash involving two commuter buses injured 23 passengers Friday morning at the Pentagon Metro Station.

According to the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA), the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. and involved an OmniRide and a Fairfax Connector transit bus. Ten of the injured passengers are Department of War personnel.

Eighteen individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment, while five others received on-site treatment and chose to leave on their own.

Authorities characterized the crash as low-speed. PFPA reported that all bus traffic is currently being diverted to the Pentagon City station, urging commuters to seek alternative travel options.

“The Pentagon Force Protection Agency requests that the public avoid the area while first responders tend to the injured and officials conduct the investigation,” officials stated.

The Metro Access Road remains closed as investigators work to determine the cause of the crash. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has implemented an alternate transportation plan for affected commuters.
