SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WKOW) — A truck crashed into multiple homes in a 55-and-up community Monday night, causing significant damage and a fire.
According to Sun Prairie Fire Chief Christopher Garrison, the crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. at a nearby intersection, where the driver lost control before traveling approximately 100 yards into the Olympic Village community. The vehicle struck one home and impacted two others, igniting a structure fire.
Debris, including shattered glass and bricks, was strewn across the area on Tuesday morning. “That whole three-unit building could have been lost,” Garrison stated.
Emergency responders evacuated elderly residents as the situation developed. Garrison emphasized the collaborative effort among multiple agencies to ensure resident safety. “This is not about buildings. This is about people,” he added.
No injuries were reported among homeowners, and the first affected home was unoccupied. The driver, a man in his 30s, was hospitalized with unspecified injuries. Authorities believe he may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.
The crash is under investigation by the Sun Prairie Police Department. Cleanup is set to begin on May 6, with a restoration company assessing the damage in coordination with Attic Angel, which manages the community.
Attic Angel released a statement expressing appreciation for the residents' resilience and affirming their commitment to ensuring the safety of the Olympic Village community.
