Hancock County Crash Claims Life of Young Boy

Hancock County, ME, — A 5-year-old boy was late Thursday night following a crash.

The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 193 in Township 22, according to the MAINE STATE POLICE. Authorities found the boy unresponsive in the passenger seat of the vehicle, which had failed to stop at a stop sign and struck an embankment.

State police attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the child was declared dead shortly thereafter. The driver, 33-year-old Dion Campbell of Indiana, and a 10-month-old girl were transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Both children are Campbell's.

Investigators noted that neither child was properly restrained at the time of the incident. Route 9 remained closed for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
