A teenager and his mother are facing charges following a vehicle crash that injured a man on Thursday, October 12, 2023, on Route 50 in Fairfax County.

According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. when a sedan, driven by the 17-year-old, collided with a pickup truck traveling eastbound. The driver, along with his 40-year-old mother, was allegedly operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene, where they transported the 45-year-old male driver of the pickup truck to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His current condition has not been disclosed.

The incident prompted the closure of two eastbound lanes on Route 50 for approximately 90 minutes while the Fairfax County Police Department conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage. Witnesses reported seeing the sedan prior to the collision.

Charges against the teenager include DUI and , while the mother faces charges related to supervision and allowing access to the vehicle. Both are scheduled to appear in court next month.
