TUCSON, Ariz. (TNND) — A 3-year-old girl was killed and her pregnant mother seriously injured in a multi-car crash, according to authorities.
The incident occurred on Friday around 1 p.m. at the intersection of East Valencia Road and South Country Club Road. Authorities report a speeding Hyundai Genesis, driven by 22-year-old Christian Isaiah Randall, struck a Toyota Camry attempting a left turn. The collision severed the Camry, resulting in the girl's death, while her mother, who was properly restrained, sustained serious injuries.
Randall and a 16-year-old boy, whose identity remains undisclosed due to his minor status, face multiple charges, including second-degree murder and aggravated assault. Witnesses informed authorities that both vehicles were traveling well above the posted speed limit.
The 16-year-old fled the scene in a Dodge Charger but was later located at a residence. Following a search warrant, investigators confirmed he was also driving recklessly at the time of the crash.
Randall, who has been hospitalized with minor injuries, is being held on a $500,000 bond at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. The teenager is in custody at the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Tucson Police Department continues to investigate and appreciates the community's assistance.
