Three Dead in Florida Turnpike Crash Involving Undocumented Driver

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (CBS12) — A crash on the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce resulted in three fatalities on August 12, 2025. Authorities identified Harjinder Singh, 30, an undocumented immigrant, as the driver responsible for the collision.

Singh allegedly attempted a U-turn in a restricted area, causing his semi-truck to collide with a minivan. All three passengers in the minivan—a 30-year-old man from Florida City, a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, and a 54-year-old man from Miami—were at the scene.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis disclosed that Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, obtained commercial driver's licenses in California and Washington despite language barriers and a lack of understanding of U.S. traffic regulations. “That was obviously a total disaster,” DeSantis said during a press conference.

Singh is now facing three counts of vehicular homicide and is currently held on an detainer in California. Lt. Governor Jay Collins is set to extradite him back to Florida for prosecution.

Florida Highway Safety Executive Director Dave Kerner condemned the driver's actions, emphasizing the profound impact on the victims' families. Video evidence from the semi-truck further confirmed Singh's behavior.

This is a developing story; updates will follow as more details emerge.
