CHILDRESS, Texas (KVII) — A Texas state trooper was killed Wednesday afternoon following a crash during a traffic stop attempt on US-287.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was conducting a traffic stop at approximately 4:00 p.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer turned in front of him, resulting in a collision. Trooper Romero was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prior to joining the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2025, Romero served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office and was stationed in Childress.
Trooper Romero is survived by his wife and two young sons.
