CHILDRESS, Texas (KVII) — A Texas state trooper was killed in a crash during an attempted traffic stop near Childress on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was conducting the stop on US-287 around 4:00 p.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of him, leading to a collision.
Trooper Romero died at the scene. He had served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office before joining the Department of Public Safety in 2025 and was stationed in Childress.
Romero is survived by his wife and two young sons. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
