Learjet Crash Claims Nine Lives in Palm Beach County

Palm Beach County, FL — A Learjet 60 crashed into Military Trail shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, killing all nine individuals on board, according to authorities.

The jet was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it descended rapidly, impacting the roadway and igniting a fire. No injuries were reported among nearby pedestrians or motorists.

Authorities have confirmed the identities of some victims, including co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, and members of the Robinson family: Adam Robinson, Helen Sharp, and their children Emma and Charlie. Filgueiras, born in Florida to Brazilian parents, earned her pilot's license before her driver's license.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash, facing difficulties due to significant wreckage scattered across the impact site. NTSB officials stated that the plane may have broken apart prior to impact, complicating recovery efforts.

Witnesses reported hearing an explosion and seeing a massive plume of smoke. “I heard and felt the boom,” said Andrew Mannino, a nearby resident.

Emergency responders, including the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, arrived promptly. Approximately 600 residents were evacuated from a nearby mobile home park due to fire and debris obstructing access to the area.

The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report within 30 days, with a comprehensive investigation that could take one to two years.
