PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Multiple people were hospitalized Thursday morning following a collision between a school bus and a pickup truck in Greenacres, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 6:35 a.m. at the intersection of West Lantana Road and Plantation Boulevard. Approximately 10 students from Dr. Joaquín García High School were on the bus; none were injured or transported to the hospital.
All four occupants of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and required rescue operations to extricate them from the wreckage. They were taken to a local trauma center for treatment.
Nineteen fire rescue units responded to the scene, arriving within four minutes of the initial 911 call. Crews initiated patient care immediately, even before freeing the victims.
“The last person was extracted by 7:20 a.m.,” said Capt. Tom Reyes with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. “This was a significant incident, and we deployed our special operations team to assist with rescues.”
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the crash, with no details confirmed at this time.
Eastbound lanes of Lantana Road remain closed as the investigation continues, while westbound traffic has been reduced to two lanes. Authorities advise motorists to avoid the area, as the investigation may take several hours.
The school district has reached out to families of the students involved, assuring them that all passengers on the bus are safe and received medical checks upon arrival at school. Counseling resources are available for students needing support following the incident.
