MONONA, Wis. — A four-vehicle crash on the eastbound Beltline just before 11 p.m. Wednesday sent four individuals to the hospital and will result in multiple citations for the driver of a semitrailer involved in the incident.
According to dashcam footage from the semitrailer, the vehicle collided with the rear of another car, instigating a chain reaction that included an overturned vehicle. The crash occurred within a construction zone, heightening concerns about safety in such areas.
Monona Police Chief Brian Chaney confirmed that the 58-year-old semitrailer driver from Iowa will face citations for inattentive driving and exceeding safe speeds in a work zone. Despite the seriousness of the injuries sustained, the investigation does not indicate that criminal charges will be filed.
One of the injured individuals has multiple bone fractures and is in serious but stable condition, as per Chief Chaney's report. The police have released the dashcam video to emphasize the rapidity with which dangerous situations can escalate and the necessity of remaining vigilant and cautious in construction zones.
