BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A semi truck driver was killed in a crash on southbound US-131 near the M-6 interchange at approximately 8 a.m. on July 1.
The collision involved a semi truck and a passenger vehicle, which rolled over. The passenger vehicle's driver sustained minor injuries, according to Michigan State Police.
The semi truck driver, a 64-year-old from Allegan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating whether drugs, alcohol, or seat belt usage were factors in the incident.
Emergency responders closed southbound US-131 and a lane of northbound US-131, including ramps to and from M-6, to facilitate the investigation and clean up the wreckage. State police advised motorists to avoid the area if possible.
A separate crash on westbound M-6 near Burlingame Avenue also resulted in lane closures. Four vehicles were involved, leading to serious injuries. Westbound M-6 was closed at US-131 during the emergency response.
Both crash sites were cleared, and all lanes on the freeways reopened around noon.
