Two Fatalities Reported in Waverly Township Crash
WAVERLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A collision on M-43 near 46th Street resulted in two fatalities on Friday, July 3, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m. Investigators determined that an SUV traveling westbound crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with an eastbound SUV. The 37-year-old woman driving the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
An 18-year-old woman from White Pigeon, a passenger in the eastbound SUV, later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Two other occupants from the eastbound vehicle were injured: a 18-year-old man from Kalamazoo sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while a 27-year-old woman from Lawrence was also reported with serious injuries.
Authorities believe heavy rain and low visibility may have contributed to the crash. The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office is advising drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed during inclement weather.
