Motorcyclist Dies After Collision with Vehicle in Downtown Kansas City
A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle at the intersection of 12th Street and Main Street on Monday, October 2, at approximately 6:30 p.m.
According to authorities, a dark-colored vehicle ran a red light and struck the motorcycle, resulting in the rider's fatal injuries. Emergency personnel from the Kansas City Fire Department responded to the scene and provided medical aid, but the rider was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.
The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which is being conducted by the Kansas City Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit.
As a result of the collision, all lanes on Main Street were temporarily closed while responders worked at the scene. Traffic is now being rerouted, and officials advise motorists to seek alternative routes as the investigation continues. No other injuries have been reported.
