A multi- crash occurred during the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race in San Diego on June 20, resulting in significant damage and injuries.

The incident began at approximately 2:41 p.m. when driver Sam Mayer misjudged a turn on Lap 35, hitting the inside wall and ricocheting into the outside wall at high speed.

Mayer's crash involved 25 vehicles, including drivers Anthony Alfredo, Sheldon Creed, and Jeb Burton. Alfredo was forced out of the race due to the collision.

The impact damaged a temporary barrier and the catchfence, prompting NASCAR to display a red flag. Emergency crews responded, with at least two cranes deployed for repairs to the concrete wall and fence.

Mayer was evaluated at the infield care center and released, acknowledging the need for improvement in future races. The event experienced six cautions and two red-flag periods in the first 35 laps, including an incident with a dislodged manhole cover that impacted another driver, Corey Day.

Repairs were made under caution, allowing Day to remain in the race.
