Two Injured in East Colfax Bus Collision
DENVER, CO – Two people were injured on Tuesday night when a Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus collided with a truck on East Colfax Avenue.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m. near North Williams Street, just two days after the center bus rapid transit lanes were officially opened. According to Denver Police spokesperson Doug Schepman, a Route 15L bus was traveling eastbound in the leftmost lane when it failed to stop at a red light, colliding with the truck, which was attempting to turn left with a green arrow.
Both drivers remained on the scene following the incident, and the bus driver received a citation for running a red light. Two RTD customers sustained injuries; however, neither required hospitalization, as confirmed by RTD spokesperson Pauline Haberman.
The new bus-only lanes, which run from Broadway to Colorado Boulevard, are part of an ongoing project meant to improve transit efficiency along East Colfax Avenue. The area has experienced confusion among drivers due to recent changes in traffic patterns. City officials are collaborating with mapping services to address these issues.
The full East Colfax Avenue Bus Rapid Transit project is expected to stretch from Union Station to Interstate 225, with completion anticipated by late 2027. The next phase of construction will affect Colfax Avenue between Colorado Boulevard and Niagara Street.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
