WELD COUNTY, CO — One person died and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Saturday, shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Weld County Road 100, east of Wellington.
Colorado State Patrol reported that a Subaru Outback, driven east by a 37-year-old woman from Fort Collins, crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 43-year-old woman from Nunn.
The Outback rotated and partially slid off the road before catching fire, while the Wrangler rolled onto its roof after going off the north side of the road, ultimately hitting a fence. The driver of the Outback was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wrangler driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
Although the road was closed following the incident, it has since reopened. The Colorado State Patrol's Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the collision.
