CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Multiple tractor-trailers collided early Wednesday on I-81 northbound, causing significant disruptions, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

The crash occurred around 3:25 a.m. near mile marker 28, resulting in debris and hazardous materials scattered across the roadway. Three tractor-trailers were involved, with one transporting raw chicken and another carrying mail; the contents of the third vehicle remain unconfirmed.

Franklin County emergency crews assisted with closing the interstate. Lane restrictions have been implemented between mile markers 24 and 29.

PennDOT confirmed that I-81 northbound will be closed for several hours, and one individual was transported to the hospital.

As of 9:30 a.m., PennDOT announced that the roadway has since reopened. Cleanup operations included the removal of spilled chicken, which is believed to have been disposed of at a landfill.
