WANDO — A crash involving a fatally shot driver occurred on January 14, prompting an investigation by Charleston police.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle collision on Clements Ferry Road near Cainhoy Road. Authorities found the driver had sustained a gunshot wound and died at the scene. Investigators believe the gunfire occurred inside the vehicle, according to the Charleston Police Department.

As of 11:30 a.m., traffic was congested as police partially closed one lane in both directions on Clements Ferry Road, as noted in a traffic update on X.

The vehicle struck a power pole during the incident, and the passenger was injured and transported to a local hospital. The identity of the deceased is pending release by the Charleston County Coroner's Office.
