Crash Claims Life of 81-Year-Old in Sussex County

Georgetown, DE – April 24, 2026, 1:15 p.m. ET – Delaware State Police have identified an 81-year-old man who died in a single- crash on Route 113 on April 17.

According to authorities, troopers responded to the incident near McColleys Chapel Road around noon. Witnesses reported Michael Jeffra was unresponsive when first responders arrived.

Preliminary investigations revealed Jeffra was driving a Explorer southbound on Route 113. His vehicle gradually left the roadway, striking a mailbox, a road sign, and a large embankment before coming to a stop. The caught fire, but bystanders managed to pull Jeffra from the vehicle and initiated first aid until emergency services arrived.

Authorities believe Jeffra may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, and no further details have been released.
