Pilot injured in plane crash in southern Indiana woods

ORANGE COUNTY, Ind. — A pilot sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a plane crash in a wooded area on Saturday night, according to Indiana State Police.

Authorities reported receiving a call around 10 p.m. from Louisville Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration regarding a potential single-engine plane crash near the Orange-Lawrence county lines.

Troopers from the Jasper and Bloomington districts, along with local agencies, conducted a nighttime search through the dense woods. The plane and its pilot were located around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Emergency responders found the pilot still inside the aircraft. Due to the challenging terrain, he was transported from the scene on a stretcher.

Indiana State Police did not specify the cause of the crash; the FAA will continue the investigation.
