Pickup Driver Falls Asleep, Collides with Ambulance in Rollover Crash.

WAYLAND, Mich. — An ambulance rolled over in a crash on northbound US-131 on Wednesday evening.

According to the Allegan County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred near mile marker 63 just before 7 p.m. A pickup truck driver reportedly fell asleep and collided with the rear of the ambulance, causing it to roll into a ditch.

At the time of the crash, one first responder was in the back attending to a patient. Both first responders were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The patient was to a hospital by Aero Med with serious injuries.

The collision temporarily closed a section of northbound US-131 as law enforcement conducted an investigation. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area during this time.

Emergency responders on scene included the Allegan County Sheriff's Office, Wayland Fire Department, Martin Fire Department, Dorr Fire Department, Life EMS, Wayland EMS, Allegan County Dispatch, Aero Med, Gun Lake Tribal PD, Wayland PD, MSP, and the Allegan County Accident Reconstruction Team.
