CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — A 3-year-old child died after being struck by a truck in Cedar Springs on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred at 4:02 p.m. at the Northland Estates Mobile Home Park, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures but the child succumbed to severe injuries at the scene.
Authorities have stated that the 33-year-old fiancé of the child's mother was driving the truck and will face charges of reckless driving causing death. The driver has not been publicly identified.
Investigators believe that reckless driving was a contributing factor, and they suspect alcohol may have also played a role in the crash, according to the sheriff's office. The man is expected to be arraigned on the charge of reckless driving next week, with the possibility of additional charges pending further investigation.
