ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — A crash involving two commuter buses at the Pentagon Metro Station's south parking lot injured 23 passengers Friday morning.

According to the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA), the collision occurred around 7:20 a.m. and involved an OmniRide and a Fairfax Connector transit bus. Authorities confirmed that 10 of the injured passengers are Department of War personnel.

Eighteen people were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment, while five others were treated at the scene and later released. PFPA described the incident as a low-speed crash.

Bus traffic is currently being redirected to the Pentagon City station, and commuters are advised to seek alternative travel arrangements. “The Pentagon Force Protection Agency requests that the public avoid the area while first responders treat the injured and officials conduct the investigation,” authorities stated.

The Metro Access Road remains closed as investigators work to determine the cause of the crash. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has implemented an alternate transportation plan for affected commuters.
