MEAD, Colo. — One person died in a rollover crash on southbound Interstate 25 near Mead early Monday morning, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
At approximately 5:55 a.m., a Ford Super Duty pickup truck collided with a work van in a construction zone, leading the pickup to roll over, CSP reported. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity will be released by the Weld County Coroner's Office after family notification.
The work van driver reported no injuries, authorities said. The crash has resulted in the closure of part of southbound I-25 between Colorado State Highway 66 and Highway 119, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
Traffic is halted in this section, causing significant delays. “It's a parking lot back to Berthoud,” a traffic expert noted. Alternative routes via side roads to SH 66 or 119 are advised.
Northbound I-25 is experiencing slowdowns due to the incident. CSP has not provided an estimated time for reopening all lanes; however, one lane was opened around 7:55 a.m. The southbound lanes reopened to traffic just before 11 a.m.
The CSP Vehicular Crimes Unit is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
