LITTLETON, CO — March 10, 1:30 p.m. A semitrailer collided with a car and a gas station in Littleton, resulting in one serious injury.
Authorities reported the 33-year-old driver of the semitrailer claimed his brakes failed while traveling south on Santa Fe Drive. After exiting onto Belleview Avenue, he crossed a median, struck a Jeep, and then crashed into a Quik Trip gas station located at 2338 W. Belleview Ave.
The driver of the Jeep sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized initially but has since been discharged and is recovering well. The truck driver reported minor injuries. No injuries were reported among the approximately 30 customers and employees inside the gas station at the time of the incident.
Littleton Police stated that an investigation revealed the semitrailer's brakes were functioning properly during the incident. As a result, the driver faces a charge of careless driving resulting in bodily injury, a misdemeanor.
The scene was cleared, and no lane closures are currently in effect.
