One dead and two injured in Tallapoosa County crash.

TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 280 near Camp Hill left one man dead and several others injured on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. on June 30, when an 82-year-old Auburn man, identified as Hugh W. Smith, was critically injured after his pickup truck was struck by another vehicle. Following the impact, Smith’s truck veered off the roadway and collided with a tree.

Smith was initially transported to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, then later transferred to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. He succumbed to his injuries on July 14, according to authorities.

The driver and passenger in the second vehicle also sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the cause of the crash.
