Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur hospitalized following hit-and-run accident en route to church, police report.

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Ohio Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur was on Sunday morning after a “hit-skip” crash near Toledo.

The Toledo Police Department confirmed that Kaptur, 80, was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck, injuring her driver, 26-year-old Kegan Zimmerman. Police reported that Kaptur's injuries are “not life-threatening” and she is in stable condition.

At approximately 10:48 a.m., authorities responded to the scene near North Detroit and West Central avenues. Both vehicles involved in the incident have been impounded, and evidence processing is currently underway.

The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene. According to police, investigators are making “significant progress” and are following strong leads to identify the responsible driver.

Kaptur, who expressed gratitude toward first responders from the Toledo Police and Fire Departments, stated she is active, alert, and receiving treatment for her injuries. Her office is awaiting further information from authorities as the investigation continues.
