Two Children Killed in Ogden Crash Involving Stolen Vehicle
OGDEN, Utah — On March 29, two young brothers were fatally injured when their vehicle was struck by a stolen car driven by two teenagers fleeing from police.
According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. in Ogden. The victims, identified as 11-year-old Izarel Vasquez and his 7-year-old brother Jaimito, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders from the Ogden Fire Department and the Weber County Sheriff's Office provided medical aid. The vehicle involved in the incident was reported stolen and was being pursued by law enforcement at the time of the collision.
Witnesses reported that the pursuit should have been called off due to the high density of traffic in the area. “As busy as that road is, something should have happened,” said family friend Hondra Gutierrez.
A fundraiser held at Knockout Kuts Barbershop raised $3,500 to support the Vasquez family, highlighting the community's grief. Barbershop owner Cisco Alcantara expressed sorrow, noting the tragedy's impact on the community.
“This didn't have to happen,” Alcantara said. He called for new regulations regarding police pursuits and road safety to prevent future tragedies.
The investigation is ongoing, and the community continues to mourn the loss of the young victims. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family during this difficult time.
