Columbus, Ohio — A driver struck a stopped vehicle in I-670 eastbound's closed SmartLane around 6 a.m. Aug. 3, authorities said.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, video shows a vehicle pulled into the emergency breakdown lane, which at times operates as the SmartLane.

Two additional vehicles are seen traveling in the closed lane; one merged away, and the other hit the stopped vehicle, ODOT said.

An individual standing in front of the stopped jumped aside to avoid the oncoming vehicles, the ODOT video shows.

Medics transported one person to OSU in stable condition, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

ODOT spokesman Matt Bruning said the SmartLane was closed to drivers at the time and is primarily an emergency breakdown shoulder.

Green arrows on the overhead signs indicate the SmartLane is open; red arrows mean it is closed, ODOT said.

No additional details were immediately released.
