Crash on I-89 in Hartford Claims FedEx Driver's Life; DUI Charges Filed
HARTFORD, VT — A crash involving a FedEx truck and a BMW resulted in one fatality on Thursday night, according to Vermont State Police.
Around 8:15 p.m. on I-89 south, the collision occurred, leading to the death of 36-year-old FedEx driver Andrew Pott from Burke, Vermont, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old BMW driver, Gabriel Vestal of Rochester, New Hampshire, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities reported that signs of impairment were evident during initial interactions with Vestal. Following further investigation, he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Vestal was issued a citation and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court for arraignment at a later date.
The crash led to a nearly eight-hour closure of I-89, with the highway reopening around 4 a.m. Friday. Vermont State Police received assistance from Hartford police and fire, as well as local law enforcement and state agencies during the investigation.
