New Orleans Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Treme Neighborhood
NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 11:57 a.m. on April 5, 2026, at the intersection of Toulouse Street and North Claiborne Avenue.
Police reported a 62-year-old woman on a bicycle was struck while waiting to cross Claiborne Avenue. A vehicle in the right lane stopped to allow her to cross, while a vehicle in the left lane, unable to see her due to the stopped car, continued moving forward and struck her.
Emergency medical services were dispatched, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers remained at the location, and initial investigations revealed no signs of impairment or speeding. No citations have been issued at this time.
Authorities confirmed that this incident is part of an ongoing investigation. The Orleans Parish Coroner will release the cause of death and identify the victim upon notifying next of kin.
