SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A missionary from Nephi is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while walking with her companion in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Tuesday morning.

Sister Addison Worwood, serving in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission, was reportedly crossing in a crosswalk when the incident occurred, according to her aunt, Kelly Gribbin. Worwood has been on her mission for approximately one year.

Her parents traveled to Tennessee and are currently with her, Gribbin confirmed. Worwood has undergone multiple brain surgeries to alleviate pressure and address a brain bleed. Surgeons performed a craniectomy and secured part of her skull with a titanium plate to prevent further bleeding.

Worwood also sustained facial and hip fractures, requiring additional treatment after her neurological condition stabilizes. Preliminary repairs were made to lacerations on her face during one of the surgeries.

Medical staff have reduced her sedation levels; however, she remains on pain medication and a ventilator. While she can move her arms and legs, she is not yet responding to commands. Her vital signs, including blood pressure and heart rate, are being monitored closely.

The next 24 to 48 hours are considered crucial for her recovery from severe brain trauma. She will remain in the surgical intensive care unit until she can breathe independently. The Worwood family expressed gratitude for the support and prayers they have received.

Gribbin noted that the Worwoods operate The Bow Shop and 7 Woods Outdoors in Nephi.
