LINCOLNVILLE — A 29-year-old motorcyclist died during a police pursuit on June 6.
Ricardo Roblero Arriaga of Mexico was traveling on U.S. Highway 78 near Midview Drive shortly before 3 a.m. when a Charleston County sheriff's deputy attempted a traffic stop, according to the Charleston County Coroner's Office. The motorcycle‘s license plate was not properly displayed, prompting the stop.
Roblero Arriaga failed to comply and accelerated to 80 mph, turning onto Van Ohsen Road and then onto Dunmeyer Hill Road. During the pursuit, he left the roadway and crashed into a roadside pole after driving into a ditch, the incident report states.
Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. The S.C. Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
