INDIANAPOLIS — A motorcycle crash early Thursday on I-465 left one rider dead after colliding with a disabled vehicle.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on I-465 southbound near the 10.7-mile marker on the west side of Indianapolis. According to the Indiana State Police (ISP), dispatch received multiple calls about a crash involving a car that struck the concrete median barrier.
Shortly after, additional reports indicated that a motorcycle collided with the disabled vehicle. First responders found the motorcycle rider unconscious at the scene; he was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations reveal a 24-year-old Indianapolis man was driving a 2008 Honda Civic when he attempted to exit the lane towards Sam Jones, lost control, and crashed into the median barrier. The wrecked Honda remained in the left lane of I-465.
Moments later, a southbound motorcycle struck the disabled vehicle, ejecting the rider and inflicting fatal injuries. Authorities stated the driver of the Honda was arrested for operating while intoxicated in connection with the incident.
The southbound lanes of I-465 were restricted for nearly five hours as investigators worked at the scene, with the roadway cleared around 7:00 a.m. Further updates on the investigation are pending.
