KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A motorcyclist died early Wednesday morning after a crash that ignited his motorcycle on Parkview Avenue near Barnard Avenue.
Emergency crews were initially dispatched to a report of a small fire at approximately 12:09 a.m. Minutes later, they discovered a motorcycle involved in the incident. Upon arrival, firefighters found the motorcycle ablaze and the rider lying nearby. Despite efforts to revive him, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Oshtemo Township Fire Department later identified the deceased as firefighter Charlie Sullivan. Fire Chief Gregory McComb praised Sullivan as a dedicated community member who exemplified the spirit of firefighting.
“Our hearts are with Charlie's family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this incredibly difficult time,” McComb stated. The fire department is providing counseling and support services to its members.
