AIKEN — A motorcyclist was killed early on Sept. 13 in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Interstate 20.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when the 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling westbound, veered off the roadway and struck a cable barrier in the median, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).
Sgt. Tyler Tidwell of the SCHP confirmed that the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved. “The rider traveled off of the road to the left, spilled, and struck the median cable,” Tidwell said.
The only occupant of the motorcycle, identified as 50-year-old John Cawley III, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:15 a.m. by Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.
Authorities reported that the investigation is ongoing, with a toxicology analysis still pending.
