LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The rhesus monkey that survived a truck crash in Mississippi last year is now thriving at the Popcorn Park Refuge.

According to refuge staff, the monkey, named Forrest, is “doing great” and enjoys outdoor activities, interactive toys, and his hammock. He has received numerous visitors, which has positively impacted his well-being.

The incident occurred on October 28, 2022, when a truck carrying 21 monkeys overturned on Interstate 59 in Jasper County, Mississippi. These monkeys were housed at the Tulane University National Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana, which provides primates for scientific research, authorities said. PreLabs, the company responsible for transporting the animals, collaborated with local authorities to retrieve them after the accident.
