A Central Texas hot air balloon disaster on Saturday resulted in the deaths of 16 people, including a North Texas couple celebrating their third wedding anniversary. John and Stacee Gore, residents of Mineral Wells, about 35 miles west of Fort Worth, were among those who perished.
The Gores were devoted members of Calvary Baptist Church, where John served in various capacities while Stacee worked as a custodian. Their pastor, Marc Alcorn, noted that the couple had four children and were actively involved with youth groups.
Community support has poured in following the tragedy. Alcorn commented on social media, stating, “If you look at all the comments from the community, all you see is prayer, concern, and love.”
Authorities reported that the hot air balloon struck high-voltage power lines near Lockhart before crashing. All passengers on board, including the Gores, were killed. John, 33, was the son of a long-time doctor in Mineral Wells and worked at a nearby plastics plant. Stacee, 31, contributed to her church as a custodian.
Married in 2013, the couple had three boys and one girl. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday at First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. Additional funeral service details will be announced after the bodies are released to their families.
