CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (WRTV) – A male driver died Wednesday afternoon following a crash at a Speedway gas station, according to the Connersville Police Department.

The incident occurred at 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of East 30th Street, State Road 1/Park Road, and North Central Avenue. Preliminary reports indicate the driver may have suffered a medical emergency, resulting in a loss of control. He was transported in critical condition to a local hospital, where he later died.

Dispatchers received calls regarding an unconscious male at the gas station. Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling north on State Road 1 at a high rate of speed before veering off course and impacting a wall at the Speedway parking lot.

The Fayette County Coroner's Office is conducting tests to determine the cause of the crash. The identity of the driver has not been released, respecting family privacy.

No additional injuries or property damage were reported. The type of vehicle involved has not been officially confirmed, but other reports suggest it was a truck.

Connersville, with a population of 13,300, is situated approximately 80 minutes east-northeast of downtown Indianapolis.
