Eagan Man Pleads Guilty in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Fatality
EAGAN, MN — Rolando O. Miranda Martinez, 58, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to leaving the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred March 7.
Miranda Martinez was driving a Honda CRV when he struck 40-year-old Leslie Anne Youngberg around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Cliff and Nichols roads. Emergency responders found Youngberg unresponsive; she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
A witness reported that the vehicle did not stop after the incident. According to the criminal complaint, Miranda Martinez claimed he had been leaving a Minneapolis bar when a “thing” jumped in front of his car, causing damage to his windshield. He stated he left the scene out of fear.
Miranda Martinez is scheduled for sentencing on June 11, facing a maximum penalty of three years in prison. A fundraiser for Youngberg's family revealed she was a day care worker and mother to a 16-year-old boy.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
