Man Killed in Amtrak Collision in Gautier

A man was killed after an Amtrak train collided with a Thursday night in Gautier around 8:15 p.m.

Authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Tavares Johnson Jr., who died at the scene on Ladnier Road, according to local media reports. None of the 55 passengers aboard the train were injured, the Gautier Police Department confirmed. It remains unclear whether Johnson was driving the vehicle or if anyone else was inside at the time of the crash.

The incident marks the second fatal train collision along the Mississippi Coast in less than two months. Following its launch in August, the Amtrak Mardi Gras service connects New Orleans and Mobile, with stops in several coastal cities.

Last month, an Amtrak train struck a vehicle in Pass Christian, resulting in the deaths of a young couple. Authorities have yet to provide further details about the current investigation.

This is a developing story.
