YORK COUNTY, Va. — A Newport News man was killed in a crash involving a Virginia Department of Transportation contractor vehicle on Wednesday night.
At approximately 6:39 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a two-car crash on I-64 East in York County. A VDOT contractor vehicle was moving slowly in the left lane with hazard lights activated, serving as a “safety net” for a construction crew setting up warning signs when a Ford Mustang collided with it, according to authorities.
The driver of the Mustang, identified as 52-year-old Michael Ohman, sustained severe injuries and later died at the hospital, VSP reported. No injuries were reported among the VDOT contractors.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
